Be able to follow instructions, ask for clarification if necessary and develop autonomy in your making.
Class format and activities
The course is divided into two sections: for the first part you will be making Japanese Woodcut prints for your coptic book. You will be cutting 4 woodblocks to enable you to print a 4 colour separation print that can be varied for each of your six 'signatures'.
For the second part of the course you will be preparing your 'signatures' using your Japanese Woodcut prints and blank paper, drilling holes in your woodcuts to form covers for your book and sewing them all together.
Time permitting we will also be making a slipcover for your coptic book.

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements
You do not need previous bookbinding experience. This class is great for anyone looking to explore their ideas through the medium of artists' books.

What you need to know before you enrol
Health & Safety information will be given at the start of the course and wherever necessary subsequently. Please ensure that you will be able to attend all
the classes as it may be difficult to catch up particularly as the woodcuts themselves will be used for covers, all the prints will have to have been finished.
What you will need for your class
Most materials will be available for the class. It is a good idea to bring your own pencil, eraser and a notebook for taking notes.

For the class it would be great if you can come with some SIMPLE graphic ideas that you might like to work up into woodcut, eg patterns and shapes.
