Here is a great opportunity to improve your ITALIC with Julie Chaney live online via Zoom.
The lessons are on Thursday afternoons, every other week, starting at 2pm and lasting for 2 hours.
They are informal sessions with attention given to the ability levels of the students taking part. A portion of the lesson is spent discussing particular aspects of the script and/or its applications, either introduced by Julie or by participants. Sharing discoveries or solving problems together is key to improvement.
These are stand alone sessions and students can join on any date for any number of classes. However, regular attendance is encouraged for steady improvement.
Exercises and practice suggestions are provided. Students can email images of their work to me prior to the session for discussion with the group. Active writing during the lesson is optional.
- advice on tools & techniques, setting up and ruling lines
- guidance on letter construction, shapes, heights, spacing, variations, etc
- review of student work
- live demonstrations
- general discussion and feedback
I’m happy to answer any questions.

I offer many exemplars and worksheets for printing at home (A4) and also suggest exercises to aid progress.
A link to join the Zoom session will be sent ahead of each workshop.
It is assumed as Improvers that you will have the basic materials (drawing equipment, calligraphy pens, ink and paper). Do get in touch if you’d like to discuss what materials you already have and their suitability. I can supply and post to you any basics that you need.
A notebook is useful as we cover a wide range of topics.
