Course Start Dates
About the Course
On this beginner’s workshop, led by Carole Storm, you will learn the basics of weaving on a loom and weave a scarf length of fabric, all in one day.
You will learn how to choose weaving materials, warp the loom and create your own cloth on a rigid heddle loom.
By the end of the day you will have a unique woven scarf or sampler. You will also have developed sufficient knowledge and skills to carry on weaving in your own time.
You can bring your own yarns or purchase them on the day.
Who is this course suitable for?
The course is suitable for beginners and improvers, and requires no previous experience. The course requires a moderate degree of manual dexterity and is probably unsuitable for under 12s. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
What will you get from the day?
Apart from a beautiful, hand-crafted scarf, throughout the day Carole will share her extensive knowledge about weaving, including how to select weaving materials, selecting a loom, warping the loom and weaving techniques.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Carole will provide a rigid heddle loom for each participant to use. If you have your own loom you may prefer to bring it to work on – this will let you set up the loom before the course, and take away partly completed work to continue later.
You can bring your own yarn, and there will also be a variety of yarns available to purchase on the day. If buying yarn, this should cost no more than £7 in total. We will email you full details of the yarn requirements when you book.
The price includes tea, coffee and home-baking morning and afternoon, and lunch, prepared using ingredients mostly grown and produced at Dalmore. We can cater for vegetarians and vegans – please indicate on the booking form if you have any dietary requirements.
