About the Course
This is an Introduction to Stitchbooking workshop that aims to give you all of the tools and advice you need to make your own Stitchbook.
Stitchbooks are beautiful handmade photographic fabric books made using a mixture of scrapbooking and textile techniques. They are based on the use of Photo Transfer Paper, which allows you to add digital images to fabric in a high-quality and hard wearing way.
The craft can incorporate a huge range of textile crafts, for example: embroidery, applique, quilt making, cross stitch and silk painting.
You can make books or pages like you would in a scrapbook- to record a family holiday or a particular event like a birthday. You can treat them like a journal and create a time capsule of your life right now, or you can make an Illustrated book on a particular theme.
During the workshop I will guide you through the main skills needed to produce your Stitchbook including printing your photos onto fabric, adding text and constructing the pages.
You will have time during the day to try out all of the techniques and make a start on the pages for your own book. Hopefully by the end of the day you will have the confidence and understanding of how to complete the rest of your Stitchbook.
You need to have a basic level of sewing knowledge and have access to basic sewing supplies at home (not necessarily a sewing machine). Minimum age is 14. After booking I will email you with a list of suggested supplies to bring along, and instructions on simple preparations you can make, such as thinking of a theme for your book and collecting photographs.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
The course runs from 10 – 3.30 and will have a half hour break for lunch. There will be a break for lunch and you can bring your own or visit the fantastic Canteen. I will also be providing tea and coffee throughout the day.
The course fee includes a Stitchbook Starter Kit (usually £35) which contains the construction materials for a 11.5 x 15cm Stitchbook with 8 pages. These include the background pages, the binding strips and rings and a selection of stampers and embellishments for you to use on your stitchbook.
You will also be able to use my wide range of fabrics embellishments, stampers and equipment. However you will likely want to provide some of your own embellishments and fabrics. (Choosing and collecting these is after all most of the fun!)
It will be held at my studio (Number 6 Hotwalls, Old Portsmouth) which is a lovely place to spend the day.
There are several parking options such as the Land Rover BAR car park and some on street parking.
Course dates are flexible; please get in touch for the next available date.
