Create a personalised fabric book using family photos to tell your own story, or as a special gift featuring treasured memories.
Stitchbooks are beautiful handmade photographic fabric books made using a mixture of scrapbooking and textile techniques. They are based on the use of photo transfer paper, which allows you to add digital images to fabric in a high-quality and hard wearing way.
During the workshop I will guide you through the main skills needed to produce your Stitchbook including printing your photos onto fabric, adding text and constructing the pages.
You will have time during the day to try out all of the techniques and make a start on the pages for your own book. By the end of the day you will have the confidence and understanding of how to complete the rest of your Stitchbook.
You’ll need to come along with an idea or theme for your book and a selection of photographs (either the originals or digital copies). You can use the book as a keepsake to record your family history, as a scrapbook to record holidays or days out. You can make personalised gifts celebrating a specific event, like a birthday, anniversary or wedding or you can make an illustrated book on a particular theme.
This course is run on an ‘on demand’ basis, and usually one to one, from my open studio in the Hotwalls studio complex. There are no set course dates and I can run the course on a day to suit you, including weekdays and weekends. Get in touch to book a date.
Any level of experience is welcome! If you have a lot of sewing experience you can use all of the skills you have picked up over the years, from patchwork to embroidery, silk painting to felting. If you are a beginner this is the perfect project to learn basic skills including using a sewing machine and hand embroidery.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
The course runs from 10 – 3.30 and will have a half hour break for lunch. There will be a break for lunch and you can bring your own or visit the fantastic Canteen. I will also be providing tea and coffee throughout the day.
