About the Course

Learn to make your own beautiful fine silver jewellery from Art clay silver - no previous experience is necessary.

Silver clay is one of a range of metal clays. All metals clays are fine metal powder mixed with a binder to create malleable clay that can be moulded, textured, rolled and cut out. The clay is then dried before being fired with a torch (which can be done using an inexpensive torch at home) or with a kiln to produce a solid piece of metal. We will be demonstrating firing with a torch so you know what you can achieve in a home environment.

Silver clay when fired, results in 99.9% fine silver pieces, which you can send for hall-marking at a UK assay office if you wanted to as it is fine enough silver to do so.

Date: Saturday 10th November 2018

Time: 9.30am - 4pm

Location: Village Hall, Milborne Port (DT9 5RE)

Maximum number on workshop is 6 people. This class is suitable for adults only - no under 16's please.

You will learn how to roll & cut precious metal clay, add textures, layering, drying and torch-firing, finishing pre and post firing including burnishing and polishing.

***Introductory Price*** Price includes one 7gm pack of silver art clay plus use of tools (silver art clay pack is worth £15).

One pack of clay is enough to make 2-3 little pendants or charms, a larger pendant, or one pair of good sized earrings.

You can also make rings with Precious Metal Clays. If you are interested in making a beginners' 'Wrap Ring', please let me know before booking as I recommend a different PMC for starting making rings and there is a small additional charge just to cover the cost of the extra Silver PMC needed to make a ring.

A small selection of jewellery finding (eg jump-rings, earring wires, and cord for pendants) will also be included so you can take home fully finished pieces - you may want to change these at home for different findings which are more suited to your finished jewellery as the findings supplied are simply to allow you to wear your jewellery pieces straight away.

Additional silver art clay packs will be available to order in advance (at the supplier price which is around £15 for a 7g pack currently) if you wish to make a larger pendant or earrings, any additional pieces, or to take some home - no obligation, just there as an option if you would like this.

You may wish to bring a craft apron and/or to wear clothes suitable for craft activities.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

This workshop is a great opportunity to learn all the basics to produce your first piece of silver clay jewellery. Sally is an encouraging and knowledgeable tutor who explains each step of the process in a clear way. The length of the workshop and small class size allows time to learn and make without feeling rushed. Good value for money and great fun. Come on your own or with a friend to enjoy a relaxed yet productive day.

The beginners silver clay workshop was a great introduction to get me started using metal clay. Sally was great at answering questions about the possibilities when using the silver clay and was really good at creating a fun and friendly environment. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who has thought of using this medium but isn’t sure where to start. A fun day that was really great value.
