Introduction to printmaking workshop

About the Course

The Tower Street Print Project is a printmaking studio in Ipswich, run by Oyster Community Press CIC a community arts organisation that has been teaching printmaking in Ipswich and at pop-up venues across Norfolk and Suffolk, since 2015. Our programme of workshops and courses for the public helps us to fund our community printmaking projects for disadvantaged groups. These are free and aim to help people access the arts who might not be able to without our support.

Our one day Introduction to Printmaking workshop is suitable for beginners or people with some previous experience who would like a refresher to brush up their skills. On the day we take you through Mono-printing, Drypoint Etching and Linocutting and let you get hands-on straightaway with designing, inking and printing your own designs. Don't worry if you think you can't draw or haven't done anything arty for a while as we have designed this day to not only give you an insight into the exciting and rewarding world of printmaking but also to give you confidence in your own creativity.

Here's what people say about this workshop

"Thank you for yesterday's workshop, I had a lovely day and have been really inspired by what I was able to achieve in such a few hours."

"I wanted to say how much mum and I enjoyed our day with you today. It was a rare treat to take some time out to do something creative, without interruption, and we were both so pleased with our prints. I’d definitely like to come back again!"

"I enjoyed my day with you very much and am recommending it to my friends. Al was an excellent patient, helpful, thoughtful and enthusiastic teacher. I do hope I’ll be able to come again "

You will be guided through the equipment and processes by an experienced tutor and printmaker who has the ability to help everyone feel at home with printmaking and we keep the class size to a comfortable number, so you will get plenty of support to produce a vibrant artwork. We are happy to have young people over the age of 14 years come to the workshop, if they bring an adult with them!
