About the Course
Join us at Slamseys for in depth printmaking courses exploring printmaking techniques and supporting you to develop your style as a printmaker.
You will create a body of work using a variety of printmaking techniques, including monoprinting, lino and block printing, thermofax and screen printing, drypoint and schappa plate etching. You will increase your understanding of combined printmaking techniques and use these methods to investigate a particular theme or idea.
Throughout the course, you will be encouraged to learn, attempt, investigate, wonder and experiment and then to follow your own lines of enquiry.
The course is suited to beginners, artists, printmakers or creative people who want to deepen their understanding of printmaking. You might be looking for inspiration or find you are struggling to make the time or space to dedicate to your work. You may be enrolled on another creative or artistic course and would like to use this to push that study forward.
Class size will be limited to six people so that you have plenty of space and resources to work with. This will allow for optimum tutor time and guidance as well as peer support throughout the course.
Group size is limited to only 6 people to give you plenty of space to work in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The workshop will begin at 09:30, please arrive five minutes before the start of the first session for introductions and a cup of tea or coffee and slice of homemade cake. The workshop will finish at approximately 15:00, but note that times may vary depending on the speed at which you work.

This is the second class I have done at Slamseys with Ruth. I wanted to develop some ideas, so even though I wasn't a beginner and some of the other students were, I could just use the space as I needed and work on my own ideas, but the guidance and help was still there, which was helpful as some of the techniques I was a bit rusty on. I took home lots of things and ideas and have already used my lino to make some cards. These all work on fabric too, so i picked up some ink at the end of the class which was good so that i didn't have to go to the shops or look online again afterwards.Do it!

This course covers all the basic techniques in printmaking, informative and interesting. It moves at a good pace and I left with lots of ideas and recommendations.

Great way to spend the summer learning new things to teach my college students next year. Well thought out, informative and interesting. Great saving with early bird booking.

I have been on this course and also the linocut greetings cards one - both of which have been so interesting and fun. Ruth catered for my gluten free diet with a new cake or biscuit each week, which was much appreciated. I think drypoint etching was my favourite, Ruth encouraged us to experiment with inking and printing techniques throughout the session. Yes, I do recommend to others. SophieBx

Intro to printing was a really interesting course. I loved drypoint etching using the press as well as screen printing, lino cut & monoprinting. It's amazing how different each technique was. It was handy to have the final session to revisit the previous topics to develop further. I think this was good value for money as there were cakes and tea and coffee available throughout the session, it was a very small group and the setting on a farm was beautiful. I travelled quite far for this workshop each week, and I definitely think it was worth it. Can't wait to book again, will be trying fabric printing next time!
