Introduction to natural plant dyeing

This workshop will give you a hands on introduction to the beautiful and sustainable craft of natural plant dyeing.

Rainy has 10 years experience dyeing and hand spinning wool from her own sheep, and for 5 years was the publishing editor of British Fibre Art Magazine.

After a brief introduction we will head out onto the flower field to collect a variety of flowers and materials to use as our dyestuff, as well as blooms to arrange. We’ll then get hands on making dye baths and creating a wide palette of colours using modifiers. No ready mixed dyes will be used – all colours will be created from scratch, allowing you to take home your newfound knowledge to develop your skills further.

All materials required will be supplied and you will take home samples of dyed wool, linen and pure silk. The silk and linen ribbons will be ideal to use as luxurious gift wrap, for bouquets, invitations etc or simply as a reference for future dyeing.

Towards the end of the workshop, you will create a simple hand tied posy from the blooms that you cut earlier, with the option to use one of your hand dyed ribbons to decorate it.

Hot / cold drinks and homemade cake are included.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
