About the Course

Spend a day gaining an overview of how to make your own natural dyes for fabrics with textile designer, Jane Deane.

You will learn how to use two plant dyes that can be grown in the UK. We will dye a number of skeins in each dyepot and then use four modifiers (after-baths) to change the colours slightly. Every student will have 10 small skeins of dyed wool, all different, to take away with them, handouts with full instructions on how we achieved the results and a list of dye suppliers. With this information it will be possible for participants to continue with natural dyeing exploration at home.

You will need an apron, or old clothes, a disposable dust mask (available from any DIY shop), rubber gloves and a notebook and pen. Please bring a plastic bag (or a waterproof alternative) to transport your wool at the end of the day (it may still be wet!)
