Description

What you’ll learn: In this workshop you’ll learn the basics of lino carving and printing, from the tools and materials you need, to lino carving methods and printing methods. We’ll start by getting used to the carving tools and the carving material and learning how to create different marks with the tools. Once you feel comfortable with using the tools, we’ll move on to carving out either a design of your own choosing, or one that I have prepared. Once the design is carved, we’ll go through the process of inking and printing up the carving, with plenty of advice on how to get a great print. We hand print the lino, without a press, so the method you learn means you will be able to continue lino printing at home. We’ll also have a play with simple two colour printing and gradients. As this will be a small group, we’ll have plenty of time to play with the inks and materials. By the end of the workshop, you’ll be confident in creating and printing your own lino cuts and will have a finished print – or several! – that will be ready for you to frame and display. A light cold lunch will be provided and hot drinks and snacks will be on hand throughout the day. What to bring: Please feel free to bring along your own drawings, photos or inspiration that you would like to create your lino print from. Maximum size of image should be 10cm x 14cm. We’ll be using plenty of blockprinting ink in this workshop, so please wear old clothes. All materials for the workshop are provided. If you would like to continue lino printing at home, then I have beginners lino printing kits available for you to buy and take home (£12 each). About the workshop space: The workshop is held in the workshop studio in my own home, just outside Stanley, County Durham. Please note: access to my home involves stairs. There is a maximum number of three people on the workshop, so you will receive plenty of individual attention and tuition. This workshop needs two people booked on in order to go ahead. Why not join up with a friend and spend a creative day together? Who is the workshop for? This workshop is suitable for beginners.
