About the Course

One day glass fusing at workshops in Cumbria with Lakes Glass.

My fused glass workshops are suitable for both beginners and improvers, no prior glass experience is necessary. They are suitable for events, groups and hen parties. They are a wonderful introduction to the art of glass fusing and a great opportunity to get your creative juices flowing whilst learning a new craft with friends or meeting new people.

By the end of the day you will have learned how to cut out glass, use a number of techniques and inclusions to create a variety of textures and effects, and you will have learned how to prepare items to the stage where they are ready for firing. Back at my studio your new creations will be fired at high temperatures of up to 800c to create totally unique works of art. I will arrange for the finished pieces to be collected, or if not possible I will post them to you. An additional charge will apply for posting finished items.

On the July workshop students will have the opportunity to make a dish (150mm x 150mm), a set of two coasters (100 x 100mm) and a small wall hanging (200 x 150mm). On the November workshop we will also be getting into the festive spirit making a selection of Christmas decorations and gifts. There is always the potential to create something different based on your own design.

Want to review this course?

I had a really enjoyable day learning with like minded people. I'm experienced with copper foil glass work and it was a great refresher and I learnt quite a bit of new stuff with glass fusing so even if you have experience you will learn something new. Beautiful surroundings and great glass studio. Alison was very kind and generous with her time and materials. Well worth going on.

Response from Lakes Glass-Cumbria:

Thank you so much Judith for your kind review, it was an absolute pleasure to have you on the course. I can't wait to see your dish with the robin design on top once it had been fused and slumped. Hoping to get all the dishes in today for their first fuse! I really enjoyed the day with a lovely bunch of people. Thanks again Alison

What a great day learning a new skill. Alison is a great teacher and obviously loves sharing her enthusiasm and creativity with us. Can't wait to see the fired pieces.

Hi Gill, it was great to have you on the course. I always look forward to seeing the work coming out of the kiln. I will start posting the finished items on my fb page @Lakes Glass-Cumbria once they are ready.

Such a great day learning new skills! I created pieces of glass that symbolised key things to me which made the day interesting and special! Highly recommend spending a day being creative and productive!

Hi Alan,
Thank you for your response. I also really enjoyed the day, everyone made such amazing pieces! Your finished dish was very impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing what you make next! Thanks Ali

Having never done glass fusion before I had no idea what to expect. Our tutor, Alison, introduced us to the activity bit by bit and gave us time to understand and explore our own ideas. I was surprised at how much I learnt in one lesson and was chuffed with the pieces I made. I'm planning my next one! 😀

Hi Kathryn,
Thank you for your review. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the workshop. It was great fun with some fab results, particularly liked your sheep and wall hanging, both were really well designed and made.
Hope to see you soon, Ali
