About the Course
Here are my workshop dates for 2018. They take place in the Parish Rooms of the lovely St. Michaels Church which are situated in the centre of Workington within easy reach of the bus and train stations and there is parking in the Church grounds.
My fused glass workshops are suitable for both beginners and improvers, no prior glass experience is necessary. They are suitable for events, groups and hen parties. They are a wonderful introduction to the art of glass fusing and a great opportunity to get your creative juices flowing whilst learning a new craft with friends or meeting new people.
By the end of the day you will have learned how to cut out glass, use a number of techniques and inclusions to create a variety of textures and effects, and you will have learned how to prepare items to the stage where they are ready for firing. Back at my studio your new creations will be fired at high temperatures of up to 800c to create totally unique works of art. I will arrange for the finished pieces to be collected, or if not possible I will post them to you. An additional charge will apply for posting finished items.
On the summer workshops students will have the opportunity to make a dish measuring 150mm x 150mm, a set of two coasters and a small wall hanging. On the winter workshops, (27th October onwards) we will also be getting into the festive spirit making Christmas gifts and decorations. There is always the potential to create something different based on your own design.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All tools, glass and kiln firing of finished pieces are included in the price.
Tea, freshly brewed coffee and biscuits are provided throughout the day. An additional treat in the afternoon of, scone, jam and strawberries or tart with fresh fruit and cream (or something similar) is provided. Could students please bring a packed lunch.
Such a great day learning new skills! I created pieces of glass that symbolised key things to me which made the day interesting and special! Highly recommend spending a day being creative and productive!

Response from Lakes Glass-Cumbria:Hi Alan,
Having never done glass fusion before I had no idea what to expect. Our tutor, Alison, introduced us to the activity bit by bit and gave us time to understand and explore our own ideas. I was surprised at how much I learnt in one lesson and was chuffed with the pieces I made. I'm planning my next one! 😀
