About the Course
Please see the website for upcoming dates.
This course offers complete beginners an opportunity to experiment with the art of glass fusing. Whether you’ve tried other types of glass-working before or are a complete novice, you will learn how to use and work with fusing glass and kilns to produce a range of pieces of your own design. You will also get a feel for how glass fusing fits in with other glass disciplines such as stained glass and glass painting and how these can be combined.
Glass fusing is the art of melting glass in a kiln, and on this course you will get to grips with how the kiln works, why we heat and cool glass in specific ways and the science of what happens to glass in the kiln. You will work through a series of projects, starting with a basic light catcher project and progressing on to jewellery making, basic mould-making and finishing with a bowl project, in which you will have you choice of our moulds and an opportunity to explore glass slumping.
This course is a great all-round introduction to kiln-formed glass, you will leave with the core skills and confidence to continue with glass fusing and most likely a thirst to continue learning!
There will be a maximum of 8 students to ensure individual attention.
Course price includes the use of tools and kilns. Materials are not included but some practice glass will be provided. Our shop is adjacent to the studios and you will be able to buy your glass as you go along and enjoy a 10% shop discount while on the course.
