Description:

Koru Arts courses are run in a beautiful light setting. The rural art gallery and working glass studio are situated in a converted farm building on the outskirts of Medstead, Hampshire. We have a regularly changing display of exciting work by local artists making this an inspirational and peaceful place to learn.

Spend the day (10am to 4pm) having fun learning how to make your own fused glass. With no more than 4 to a class we can ensure you will get all the help and attention you need from our Glass tutors, Jan Simpson and Alison Smith. Basic Firing schedules covered and a good technical overview of glass fusing is given.

Learn how to how to handle and cut glass safely and understand the processes we use. See us demonstrate how to use different grades of glass, including Frits, Sheet Glass, Rods, Stringers.

Spend the afternoon using what you have learnt to make one or more pieces of your choice and design under our expert guidance and supervision.

We will fuse and shape your pieces in the kiln and can then post them to you or arrange for you to collect them within two weeks of your course.

Full payment for courses is due on booking. Fees are non refundable within 14 days of your course unless we can fill your place. Please note that we can accept payment online via paypal, over the phone by credit card, debit card, bank transfer or in person.

Want to review this course?

An absolutely fantastic course, Jan and Alison are both welcoming and very knowledgeable on the subject, making for an informative and enjoyable day.

Plenty of theory, advice on tools and techniques, and enough time to get very 'hands on' with as much or little support as you need (as an absolute beginner I needed plenty!)

The course is suitable for all abilities, from complete novice to those with more experience in working with glass. I would definitely recommend it.

A fantastic day, love all things glass, thought I would try to make something and hopefully learn a new skill in the process.
The day is not disappoint, 3 of us on the course, all made to feel very welcome - chocolate cake as well!
As described on the website, morning spent learning the 'technical bits & how to use the various tools safely', afternoon, the fun bit making our chosen piece.
Will be going again! Looking forward to seeing the finished product once it comes out the kiln.

A fantastic day , Jan explains everything really well and then helps you create something that you feel really proud of. A nice homemade lunch and opportunities to chat with the other participants .

I completed this course earlier in the week. Fantastic!

Tuition is clear and easy to follow, and Jan is on hand to guide you through any techniques you may find tricky and offer alternatives where appropriate.

Can't wait to see the result. As a practicing fine artist, I enjoyed stretching my repertoire and discovering a new area of work to consider.

I would recommend this course for any stage in the artistic journey, from beginner to pro.

A great day learning the basics of glass fusion including some good theory of tools materials and techniques and interspersed with lots of practical work, developing techniques and the designing and making a large piece of my own, with good support from Jan. A thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing day, totally absorbed in creative glass work. The lunch was great too.
