About the Course

This two part short course offers an insight into fashion design, and allows you to get a taste of the skills required whilst exploring your ideas creatively in a fashion context. Through workshops, you will explore the basic fashion design skills and principles including research, drawing, design, and how to realise your work in 3D (pinning & hand sewing). This is perfect for those interested in trying out fashion design as an interest or a career, before progressing onto further fashion courses at Morley College. You may wish to enrol on part 1 and part 2 (each 5 weeks) to develop your skills further. The main focus of Part 1 will be on research, drawing and design skills, with some 3D elements including an introduction to upcycling and customizing existing garments to create exciting and individual new ideas. The main focus of Part 2 will be on 3D development; exploring ideas to create a one off fashion piece using recycled materials. There will also be the opportunity to explore textile embellishment through embroidery and block printing (Please note you will use pinning and hand sewing to create 3D ideas. If you wish to learn how to use the sewing machine, it is recommended you enrol on Introduction to the sewing Machine or Clothes Making Beginners.
