About the Course

A midweek baking class ideal for beginners and offered on a 'one to one' basis or ideal for two friends who would like to spend the day together.

Enjoy hands on personal tuition beside the AGA in the farmhouse kitchen of an award winning cookery school where you can learn in a relaxed and inspiring environment.

Guests will receive a file of recipes including the conventional methods, temperatures and timings as well as a range of useful tips and tricks from an experienced private chef, caterer and cookery teacher.

What's included in the price?

Arrive at 10.30 am as we brew freshly ground coffee and enjoy homemade shortbread, warm from the AGA.  Together we will chat through the recipes for your day and these will be demonstrated by Lisa and then there will be time for you to re-create all of the methods for yourselves.

Learn to make English muffins, Swiss roll, cheese scones, shortbread biscuits and Chelsea buns.

During the day we will…

Create two yeasted doughs using fresh yeast.
Discuss the differences between fresh and dried yeast.
Create a butter based shortbread
Learn how to make a fatless sponge and create a Swiss roll.
Discuss how this recipe can be adapted for seasonal events.
Bake in the oven and using a griddle
Make a lemon curd or seasonal preserve depending on the time of year.
Discuss and list the kitchen equipment needed for the home baker to achieve the best results
Compare a wide range of flours available and use these to create a bread and pastries.

A light, vegetarian lunch will be included along with unlimited refreshments
This is a hands on course which involves a lot of participation from the guest bakers standing throughout the day. It is suitable for anyone who is new to baking or just starting to learn although we are able to adapt the course for more experienced and advanced home cooks if requested before your class.

The class will draw to a close at 3.30 pm and there will be time to answer any remaining questions before we say a fond farewell.
