About the Course
New course for 2018
We are delighted that International Glass Artist Karen Redmayne will be taking our Fused Glass workshops for 2018.
Karen s July course will be focusing on Fused glass incorporating Lakeland Flora and her November course will focus more on Christmas decorations.
You will learn about different types of glass used in fusing work, dichroic and iridescent and also about the all important COE (Coefficient of expansion) – vital to understand in glass fusing as it makes sure the right types of glass are used together.
You will learn how to cut, and what can be done with glass in a kiln in terms of fusing, stacking, tack fusing and slumping. You will also learn about various inclusions and their different applications, using frits, stringers, stamps and foils and other fragments.
You will be able to make jewellery, coasters, plaques – as in the pictures. Obviously if you wish to make Christmas Decorations in spring or summer then that’s fine too!
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Additional charges are £20 per student and this includes the glass you use and the firing fee back at Marilyn's studio plus redelivery of the glass back to the Cycle Cafe.
Welcome drinks : fresh coffee & home made biscuits, a lovely 2 course Aga lunch served in our farmhouse kitchen or outside in the Greystoke Cycle Cafe Tea Garden as soon as it's warm enough. To finish off the day, a freshly made Cream Tea (including Aga-baked scones, cream and jam).
Our days are considered real treats - many come back time and time again and often combine it with a short break to the Lake District.
We have been hosting and organising 'Quirky Workshops' since 2005 from our friendly family run Cycle Cafe Tea Garden on the northern fringes of the Lake District. All our tutors are carefully hand selected experts and professionals and many considered as leading nationally in their field.
A lot of techniques covered during the day. Plenty of variety to choose from.

As usual, if it doesn't work it is me not the instructor! Well described and easy to follow. Easy projects to complete in a day so very satisfying (except firing of course). Looking forward to results.

Really enjoyed my first introduction to glass fusion. Karen was an excellent tutor, really helpful with ideas, techniques and demonstrations. And to top it all Annie's wonderful food!
Mady T - - #14025
Excellent tuition and assistance throughout the day and I came away having made several pieces of fused glass. A great day.
