Inks are either water soluble or water resistant once they are dry. These two characteristics can be used and manipulated in varied and exciting ways. Inks can be applied by a variety of tools/ pens, it can be spattered, painted over, used over resist, with bleach and salt. Explore these many functions and effects, using a range of coloured inks. Use stencils, rags. Draw and paint onto different papers and surfaces.
Class format and activities
This is a practical class and you will spend most of your class time drawing and / or painting at home. Your tutor will send you materials by email in advance of the sessions and your class will meet online via Zoom or Teams at designated times each day for demonstrations, short lectures on artists' work, 1:1s, sharing of the work made and group discussions facilitated by the tutor.
You will be encouraged to meet the outcomes at a personal level and those with previous experience may be offered more challenging aspects to planned projects.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
The course is for all abilities. While it is helpful to come with some drawing experience, complete beginners are welcome.
What you need to know before you enrol
This is an online course, offered during COVID-19 restrictions. Your tutor will be available during course hours and will provide feedback where possible. You will need to have access to a computer, the internet and email and to download Zoom (instructions to be sent in advance of the course start date). You will need to supply your own art materials - please see below. A smartphone or digital camera to take pictures of your work will be helpful.
