About the Course
1-1 adult tuition run throughout the year with Chris Greening in North Worcester.
You can choose to book either a one-off lesson that is suitable for absolute beginners as well as those revisiting skills that may have got rusty or, sign up for multiple sessions.
The workshop is equipped with a potter’s wheel, slab roller (good for making tiles and platters), extruder (for squeezing clay shapes), kiln and a range of tools which will be available for you to try out.
We will use earthenware (the clay used in garden pots) clay with coloured slips (liquid clay) which gives a wide range of decorative options.
Pottery is a very broad subject and it can sometimes be difficult to know where to start, but if you just want to “have a go at pottery” then we can fit in a go at throwing a pot (or two) as well as trying some hand building techniques, such as a tile or plate. The aim will be to have made something you can either take home (in raw clay state) at the end of the lesson or wait for it to be fired.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

My Mum encouraged me to have a go as I don't have the patience for many creative pastimes. I really enjoyed it; Chris is very good, responsive to whatever you wish to achieve. I had such a good time, I booked 6 more lessons. I'm making Mum a Christmas present now - she might regret the initial suggestion!

This was a fantastic evening. Chris is a most patient and encouraging teacher, and the individual support he offers really builds your confidence. The joy of being able to get straight into throwing a pot, and the sense of achievement at producing them, with his skilled guidance, made this a most memorable evening. I hadn't thrown a pot for nearly 50years and he made me believe I could do it again. Thankyou Chris.

Chris's Introduction to Pottery course was a fabulous birthday gift from my husband. I thoroughly enjoyed my lesson with Chris, he was welcoming, friendly and patient. We started with how to centre the clay on the wheel and ended with several small pots of various shapes and sizes. I'm looking forward to picking them up in a couple of weeks, I have the pottery bug and will be booking my next lesson soon.

An excellent evening with Chris who encouraged myself and my husband to enjoy our first pottery experience. Chris is welcoming and shares his knowledge of pottery with enthusiasm, clarity and patience. We learned how to 'throw' pots and decorate tiles...collecting them glazed a few weeks later. Many thanks Chris.

I had two lessons with Chris as a birthday gift as i am a big fan of the pottery throwdown on TV! I have to say i thoroughly enjoyed both lessons and it has given me a real enthusiasm for pot throwing. Chris was very welcoming, easy to get on with, explained everything slowly and clearly and was very encouraging. I created some small pots and a mug on first lesson and some bowls on my second lesson. He glazed and fired my first pots for me so they were ready to take away on my second lesson which was great. I also had some tiles to take home and scraffitto which was good fun and my wife and kids had a go too! A really great experience with a patient and knowledgeable potter - highly recommended.

A one-off pottery lesson as a birthday present, and it was hugely enjoyable and satisfying for a novice potter ! I learned to throw pots and decorate tiles, and returned later to collect my glazed items after firing. So pleased with my efforts, and many thanks Chris.

I really enjoyed my lessons with Chris, he is a skilled and patient teacher, and was happy to focus on my area of interest. As a beginner I learnt how to throw on the wheel, and was thrilled to see my progression as the pots improved: It was very exciting to see my final pieces once glazed and out of the kiln! Thanks to Chris, I can now throw confidently, and understand the processes of working with clay. I learned a lot through the clearly guided one-to-one tuition and would highly recommend this course.
