Indian block printing: tree of life with Anne Kelly

X

Description

We welcome Anne Kelly back to Atelier Beside the Sea for the second of two special masterclasses for 2023. Working with wooden printing blocks on fabric creates a very personal and textural effect for your projects. It is easy and enjoyable to print and make a piece of work using this technique. Using a selection of Anne’s and your own printing blocks and rubber stamps you will create a ‘Tree of Life’ themed textile collage with birds and animals. Anne has observed first-hand the printing block technique and production in India and has also been inspired to design her own blocks. Anne Kelly is an award-winning Canadian born, UK based artist, author and tutor. Her multi-layered and densely stitched textiles have been likened to ‘small worlds’. Trained in Canada and at Goldsmiths College in London, she creates wall hangings and objects using a mixture of mixed media collage and hand and machine embroidery. Her teaching and gallery work take her around the UK and abroad. Anne’s four books for Batsford connect her practice with her teaching and project work. She exhibits in solo and group exhibitions, nationally and internationally and has been artist in residence in a beautiful garden in Sussex and a hilltop village in Italy. She is a member of the Embroiderers Guild UK, the Crafts Council Directory the Society for Embroidered Work and the European Textile Network.
