About the Course
Looking for more direction and commitment in your writing? These courses address questions of self-discipline and risk-taking and are designed to develop and hone your skills.
For those who have done at least one year of work in a writing group at Level 1 and who are working on their own projects.
Who is this course for
This course is for students who have completed at least a year at Beginners level, and who are looking for more direction and commitment in their writing.
The course runs in two six-week blocks each term. You'll learn a lot from one block, but you'll get most from signing up for both blocks each term.
A strong desire to write is required, and the motivation to produce more complete pieces of work.
What does this course cover
1. Gain an understanding of the qualities that make for good writing, and apply this to your own work.
2. Build your skills in specific aspects of the writing craft.
3. Give and receive constructive comment.
4. Edit a piece of your own work.
By the end of the course you should have made considerable progress in your chosen form. You will have gained confidence in your abilities as a writer and grown in your desire to go on with your writing.
What will it be like
Writing exercises will be set for stimuli and discussion in class and homework assignments will be available for those who want them.
Students will be expected to be more self-determining and self-motivating and to be able to produce more sustained pieces.
Work is read out to the class. There is very good group support, with constructive and helpful feedback and an atmosphere of creativity and trust in the writing process. Students also regularly assess their own learning and progress throughout the term.
What else do you need to buy or do
Pen and paper. Regular writing time.
