Spoon Carving Workshop with Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust

Finished spoon by Jonah Maddox

Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust are delighted to be working in partnership with Hertswood to offer this wonderful introduction to the woodcraft skill of spoon carving.

Spend a day in the wildlife garden at the Trust's Head Office, learning to carve a spoon from local wood. The workshop is intended for beginners, and by the end of the 4 hours, you will walk away with your very own spoon!

You will learn a bit about the wood and tree it came from and what to look for if you want to forage for your own spoons. Spoon carving usually begins with axe work to get a rough shape but I have eliminated this part of the process to save time. You will begin with a roughed out spoon meaning that you should have enough time to get it to a place you will be happy with. We will cover how to use a straight knife and hook knife safely and then we will get on with the fun part!

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

Local wood prepared for you to carve and take away your own spoon by the end of the session.
Lunch not included (but there will be tea and cake!)
