About the Course

Calling all Artophiles! This residential weekend workshop teaches all aspects of traditional teddy-bear making, using only the finest quality materials. The workshop runs from 10.00-4.00pm on Saturday and Sunday, during which you will learn how to create a 14", fully jointed traditional mohair teddy bear with glass eyes and filled with stuffing, complete with growler. You can choose from a small range of mohairs and ultra suede ears and pads to create a completely individual bear. The teddy bears are mostly sewing-machine stitched, so competence on a sewing machine is essential. No other skills are needed, making this course ideal for beginners.

Please note these are not children's toys.

We bring in specialist tutors for individual courses and sometimes offer different courses within the same category. Please note the review below is for a different, hand-stitched miniature bear-making weekend, run by a different tutor.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

All tools and materials, as well as use of sewing machines, unless you prefer to bring your own.
Mid-morning tea, coffee and pastries, a light lunch and afternoon drinks and cake are included.

This is a residential course and on-site accommodation is available at a rate of £80 (2 sharing) or £65 single occupancy. The course is limited to 6 students, but participants may bring along partners who wish to persue their own activities.

Want to review this course?

I warmly recommend this course. My friend and I had a lovely weekend spent making a charming little bear in a beautiful part of England! Lyn helped us all to create a jointed bear in our choice of mohair. All materials are included in the cost of the course, making it good value for money. Lyn is an excellent teacher - patient and very encouraging. Most of us were new to bear-making, but we all went home having completed our own bear, each with their own character. To finish, we had to 'stick at it' over the two days and some of us had a bit of stitching to complete as 'homework', but the finished bears were well worth it!
The number on the course is limited and Lyn ensured that we received individual attention when we needed it, as well as keeping us well-supplied with tea and coffee.
My friend and I stayed at Kathy's guesthouse. We enjoyed her hospitality and cooking, and fell in love with her two dogs!
