Herbaceous Propagation Workshop

Taking cuttings

Fancy increasing the number of your favourite garden plants, shrubs and trees?
Do you love being outdoors in the fresh air? Come and immerse yourself in the surroundings and gardens here in the Cheshire countryside @:Toolerstone.

Propagation is the breeding of specimens of a plant by natural processes from the parent stock. ‘the propagation of plants by root cuttings’

This one day Propagation from Division Workshop is run by our Head Gardener, Simon.

Many herbaceous plants are propagated by division – the separation of one plant into several self-supporting ones. You will learn how to split clumps into sections, each with at least one shoot and a root system of their own.
In small groups of no more than 10 you can work at your own pace and enjoy the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We will provide the home bakes and lunch – there are endless mugs of tea, always a bonus!

A bit more detail about the workshop

Our propagation from division workshops will teach you how to propagate plants for all seasons.

During your time with us you will learn about different tools, propagation structures and composts. You’ll also get to take your cuttings home with you!

Our propagation workshops change with the season to make sure you can get the most out of your garden.

About the tutor

Simon has been the Head Gardener at Toolerstone since December 2012. Previously, he was an estate gardener looking after the grounds and gardens for a large country estate. Simon has always had a passion for gardens, planting and the outdoors . During his twenties he decided to take that interest to the next level and enrolled at college to study Horticulture and Garden Design at RHS level 2. Simon has run his own gardening business and has a passion for teaching. We are thrilled to have Simon on board with us here @:Toolerstone sharing his knowledge and expertise. He also knows a thing or two about cider making, laying a patio and building a fire!
