Learn how to create and print your own fabric designs using paper cutting techniques in this fun introduction to the heat press.

In this practical hands-on workshop, you will learn how to print your own fabrics using transfer dyes and painted paper. Working with the heat press you will be guided through a variety of experimental techniques, leaving the session with a selection of printed fabric samples for you to develop and build your ideas on.

Gained knowledge and understanding of transfer dyes and fabrics used
Creative reference samples to expand your practice
Enjoy a fun experience learning a new printing technique in a professional studio environment.

Suitable for all levels, this workshop is aimed at anyone with an interest in textile print who would like to explore a new technique or those looking to develop their creative practice.

No experience is necessary. A full induction will be given, and you will be shown how to use the heat press safely. Cutting tools and sharp blades will be used. If you have any concerns about using any of the equipment please get in touch before booking.

All participants must be 18 and over.

Refunds are not available on this booking. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

All printing materials, fabrics and equipment are included. We use fabric salvaged from fashion industry waste, helping to reduce unnecessary landfill of unused remnants and fabric off-cuts.

Design support and creative guidance

Tea and Coffee will be available. Any beverages during the class should be in closed water bottles/containers.

What you will need:
Please bring an A4 folder or sketchbook to record and take your samples away in.

Inspiration material will be provided, but you are welcome to bring a simple image you would like to experiment with. Basic shapes and bold motifs work best for these exercises as this will involve cutting i.e. Geometric shapes, flowers, leaves etc.

It is advisable to wear old clothes and/or bring an old shirt or apron to protect your clothing. For your safety, please avoid any loose items of clothing.

Gloves - If you have sensitive skin you may wish to wear surgical style gloves when handling the dyed papers. Latex-free surgical gloves can be provided.
