About the Course
Join us for an outdoor craft workshop in the Discovery Walk Garden at Priory Farm, South Nutfield, an area of outstanding natural beauty and make a Hazel & Willow Obelisk (plant support) you can be proud of!
This 2.5-hour workshop will commence by making a mini-obelisk suitable for supporting and protecting the initial growth of sweet peas in a pot, this will allow you to practise the technique of weaving using Willow. Following this, you will move on to create a full-size Obelisk using Hazel, Willow or a combination of both!
We run both a morning and afternoon workshop:
Morning workshop: 9.30 a.m. to 12.00 p.m.
Afternoon Workshop: 1.30 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.
All materials will be provided. Your tutor Lorraine coppices the Hazel rods with her husband Paul Matthews (a professional Hedgelayer) from local woodlands and harvests the Willow from Priory Farm where various varieties are grown alongside their fishing lakes.
The workshop is suitable for adults and sensible teenagers. You will be able to work independently or in pairs. You can also make your Obelisk on a tabletop if you have problems with your back or bending your knees.
We recommend you wear comfortable, outdoor clothing and footwear. You may also wish to bring a pair of gloves to protect your hands. You may also wish to bring something to kneel on and your own secateurs if you have them. However, don’t worry we will have some spare gloves and secateurs for you to use on the day if you don’t have your own.
