Learn to Strip & Build a Bike Day
Each student will be provided with a bike work stand and set of tools and then will be shown how to remove all the components piece by piece.
This day course covers: Gears, Brakes, Chains, Cable Replacement, Headsets, Bottom Brackets,Wheels and Hubs.
It doesn't guarantee ruling out a trip to the bike shop but will certainly help reduce bills!
In order to come on a Strip and Build bike course students should be able to happily remove and replace the rear wheel of their bike. Those on the course will learn how to repair or fix various small problems and change brake cables and gear cables on this day. It will be similar to you giving your bike a basic service. You will save yourself time and money and in the future be able to mend or tweak slipping gears and worn brakes.
Your bikes should be thoroughly cleaned before you arrive.
Our tutor, Dan Richards is a qualified Cytech 3 mechanic and owner of Lake District Cycling, a cycling service provider (in association with Virgin Trains at Penrith Station and shortly Oxenholme Station, providing much needed pre-bookable Cycle Hire from the station platform) as well as guided rides / tours and a cycling information resource for the local area.
From Penrith, Dan is the new British Cycling Sky Ride Ambassador for the Lake District (& Cumbria) and planner / promoter and leader of assessable group rides for Go Lakes (LDNP, CT & CCC) and Active Cumbria. He is also the community cycle officer for Alston Moor and author of Top 10 Family Cycle ride books to the Lake District.

Dear Annie and Dan,
Just a quick email to thank you for yesterday’s bike maintenance course and for your fantastic hospitality. I got a lot out of the course and now feel more confident to try a few maintenance tasks myself. Regrettably, they won’t be accompanied by the lovely soups, biscuits and scones that we enjoyed yesterday!
