About the Course
Jo Hannah is a Ceramic Artist who graduated from the University for the Creative Arts with an MA in Ceramics.
Jo believes in the therapeutic benefits of working with clay and it is hoped you will find the process relaxing and enjoyable! Hand building with clay has been around for thousands of years. The techniques involved vary and are numerous. In this workshop you will be shown a simple technique to form a small dish or bowl which involves rolling out a slab of clay, which is then manipulated to have an organic natural looking shape.
You can paint your work with a coloured liquid clay called ‘slip’ and different colours will be available. There will be the opportunity to make more than one piece of work. Due to the nature of clay you won’t be able to take your work home on the day. Clay must be fired and this will be done by Jo in her studio, first to a “bisque’ temperature. Your work will then be glazed with a transparent glossy glaze which requires a second firing. You will be notified when work is ready for collection and it’s usually a couple of weeks after the workshop.
