Hand Spinning on a Wheel: Evening Class

Live Hand Spinning on a Wheel Course on Wednesday evenings.

This course will be delivered over 4 weeks presented as zoom meetings. This will allow for lots of interaction between us to assist your learning and I hope that you will feel as though you are with me here at The Spinning Barn. Each lesson will last for 1 ½ hrs however if time requires, we shall continue longer at no extra cost.

I shall talk you through and demonstrate each aspect of the spinning process to ensure you fully understand each element before moving on to the next. You will also be able to contact me directly and individually between lessons if you require any additional support. My aim is always to support new spinners to achieve their spinning ambitions.

I shall also supply you with sufficient fibre to use during the lessons so that every participant uses the same for ease of instruction. This is due to the very different requirements of each fibre that could potentially be used. Please consider postage times when placing your booking. If you miss a date do please get in touch and I shall be happy to accommodate other dates where possible.

The Course Programme:

Please note that learning to spin is not a prescriptive thing so we shall take the whole course as your needs dictate based around this programme.

Week 1 – Getting to know your wheel. An introduction to spinning wheels to include discussion on the types of wheels participants will be using and understanding the importance of treadling techniques.

Week 2 – Preparing to Spin. Breaking down drafting and spinning techniques before we actually spin. This will enable hand and foot coordination and the perfection of drafting techniques before starting on the fluffy fibre!

Week 3 – It’s time to Spin. This week will put all of the necessary previous learning into practice. We shall discuss and practise all of the necessary requirements to achieve your fabulous first skein of yarn. We shall make a start on the spinning too. This will be so much fun.

Week 4 – More Spinning with Q&A. This final week will give you the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have following your spinning independently at home. We shall assess your spinning so far and look at ways of perfecting your technique. Troubleshooting will be covered to ensure that you feel totally confident to go it alone. And of course we shall share your experiences and achievements together.

Once you have purchased the course you will be sent a zoom invitation. I shall also request your postal address to which I can send your fibre.

I am already looking forward to teaching you this wonderful craft.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
