About the Course
Soapology Studio Nottingham hosts group soap-making workshops on SATURDAYS and occasional Sundays.
Held at our Soap Studio, in picturesque Farndon, just outside the market town of Newark on Trent (NG24 3SB).
You will receive detailed course notes to keep and your ticket also includes a delicious lunch. 10am - 4pm
The ancient art of soap-making is a collaboration of art and science and here at Soapology we love to teach enthusiastic newcomers to soap the skills of the business that we love. We start at the beginning and aim to have a lovely creative day and for you to leave with some skills, some soap and a smile on your face :-)
Emma is a self taught soaper, with many years experience in soap-making and running her own soap business selling wholesale to retailers throughout the UK and direct to consumers at our local farmers market in West Bridgford and online.
The day is structured to give you the most time for hands on practice but with a healthy level of theory to give you the best possible experience.
•Brief history and basic chemistry of soap-making
•Everything you’ll need to get started – ingredients and equipment
•Safety aspects of working with Sodium Hydroxide
•Preparation of moulds and moulding options
•Using additives in soap such as flowers, seeds, oats, oxides, herbs, spices and clays
•Colouring your natural soaps
•Adding nutrient oils for various skin conditions
•Blending Pure Essential oils for fragrance
•Mixing, pouring, cutting, curing and storing your finished soap
We will explore all of the raw ingredients that you can pick from to make soap and begin to look in detail using your touch and smell senses to start to learn about the oils and butters as we talk you through your first batch where you will watch Emma and ask as many questions as you need to get your confidence.
We break for a delicious lunch and return buzzing with ideas and ready to get started on your first solo batch.
The afternoon brings plenty of experimentation where you will create approximately 3 batches per person (time dependent) and get lots of practice in.
Whatever you have made is yours to take home and use or give as gifts to friends and family who will no doubt be amazed at how clever you are
•A demonstration by Emma
•A supervised afternoon of soapmaking using a variety of oils, fats, butters and nutrient oils.
•Playing with colours and fragrance options and experimenting with additives such as poppy seeds
At the end of your workshop, you can choose to purchase a starter pack of ingredients to take home and practice your new skill. The pack is £30 and includes :
•Container to use as a mould
These ingredients will make over 4 batches of the soapology recipe that we use during the day. Just add easy to find additives like honey / milk / oats / poppy seeds.
Please advise us if you want to take one of these home with you so that we can make sure we've got some ready.

Big thanks to Emma for a soaptastic day! Interesting, informative and thoroughly enjoyable. I was nervous about the maths and chemistry and working with lye but Emma made it really clear. Great to go home with a guide I will refer to again and again.
The first half of the course was the necessary theory, then after a tasty lunch, we experimented with fantastic oils, butters and techniques and came out with varied soaps I'd happily pay a lot for in a shop! Not bad for a first try. Can't wait to try my own recipes with more confidence.
Overall, I can't recommend this course highly enough for anyone interested in natural soap making.

This is a really good course. The first half of the day is theory and lots was learnt.
A really nice lunch with a good discussion. The afternoon was spent creating three batches of soap (and thats a lot of soap!). Lots of fun and experimentation getting different smells etc. Emma is clearly an expert and the course ran smoothly.
We have just taken our soap out of the moulds twenty four hours after the course and its now drying - you get to learn all of this. We also purchased a kit from Emma that will allow us to make a batch under our own steam.

I really enjoyed the basic course that Emma took us through.
The course was split, with theory in the morning and practical in the afternoon.
A course designed not to be complicated but enough to allow you to make more soap the correct way in the comfort of your home.
I'm sure after practice I'll be considering a more advanced course.
An enjoyable course and recommended.

Had a wonderful day with Emma on her soap making course, this is something I have been wanting to do for years! She gave us a excellent hand out & talked us through it explaining all the science & calculations while still keeping our interest. After all the theory, cake & lunch we got down to the actual making of soap. With help & guidance from Emma we all made 3 batches of soap, giving us the opportunity to try different colours, essential oils & effects.
I would recommend this course to budding soap makers & as well as people who just want to have a fun day trying out a new craft. Emma also runs more advanced courses, which I will be back to learn some more.

I really enjoyed this course, Emma was the perfect host, very knowledgable and patient. The day was packed full of information with a practical session in the afternoon making three batches of soap. Emma provided a lovely lunch with plenty of tea and coffee. I will definitely go back and do another course at a later date.

I really enjoyed this course - great content in the morning theory session & fun in the practical afternoon session. With 4 people in the group it was great to see other people's choices of colours or essential oils. Emma was perfect host and the whole day had a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I loved that you could purchase a starter kit - I've already made 2 batches myself. I would definitely recommend this course.

This was a lovely day, Emma was encouraging and supportive. The morning session was very informative, although I am not sure I totally understood the maths involved!! The afternoon was great as I got to make 3 batches of soap. It was great to use the different essential oils and other ingredients and Emma encouraged us all in using her stock. I had a really enjoyable day and would thoroughly recommend it for anyone interested in starting soap making. Thanks also to Emma's partner for giving a helping hand. Was

An excellent and well taught course including everything you need to know about cold processed soap making. There was plenty to learn from the day and we all managed to make plenty of soap of our own fragrance and design to take home. If you are looking for a soap course or just want to have a dabble this is definitely the course for you.
Sam - - #5936
An excellent course, guiding you through the soap making history, methods, ingredients and recipes for making a natural high quality soap.
The morning session was informative and the afternoon session a hands on workshop. I made 3 soaps and Emma was very generous with the range of additives, essential oils and colours which we could chose, and of course with her professional teaching skills.
I would recommend this course 100%

For my Birthday my children gave me a Soapology Voucher, I attended a full day course last Saturday at Emma's Studio in Farndon and had an absolutely brilliant day. Emma has a wealth of knowledge and is passionate about her craft, her patient and encouraging teaching style made it easy for me to learn and understand so much about the art of soap making during the day, along with the three batches of soap which I made, we were also given course notes to take home, these will be very useful for referral in the future. I treated myself to a 'kit' too so that I can make more soap this week (already thinking of new fragrance combinations). Emma provide a super lunch and offered lots of refreshments during the day. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone. Thank you Emma, hope to see you again soon.

I had an amazing day learning how to make soap yesterday at Colwick Hall!
Emma was so welcoming and a great teacher. She was patient in answering all of our questions and thoroughly explained everything. Refreshments were provided for us and after the morning session which was theory based, we were treated to a lovely lunch.
Then the fun! In the afternoon we started to make the soap. Everyone looked like they were having a great time, especially when they got to the colour and additive section. Choosing the 'toppings' and additives was my favourite part. Emma again was really patient with me when I changed my mind about what I wanted on top of one of the soaps and she helped me to make the most of our time.
We made three batches of soap all together to take home.
I would love to come back and this time bring my mum. It was a great day full of delicious smells and I would thoroughly recommend it.
Cheers Emma for a fab day!

A packed day full of interesting information about a lovely product, had lots of fun deciding on my own special soap unique to me as every batch is totally different. All aspects of soapmaking were covered and this information was available to take home along with the soap you made on the day. Lots of support from all the team at Soapology with nothing being to much trouble.
The day included a lovely lunch with plenty of tea/coffee or water to drink throughout the day.
I would recommend this course to anyone. Thank you Emma and all your team for a great day.

This was a very interesting day, with lots of soap making fun. The tuition was expertly executed, and a very informative Soapology folder of the history of soap, and how it's made. It also includes recipes and tips for you to make soap at home.
We had a break for a lovely 2 course lunch and plenty of coffee, tea and biscuits available all day.
I would recommend this course to anyone. Well done Soapology's Emma and Richard.
