About the Course
Learn how to make a traditional Welsh stick chair using simple greenwood methods. Seats are carved from elm boards; legs etc are shaped from cleft ash using a side axe, drawknife and spoke-shave and chair construction is achieved through using the bit and brace. There will also be the opportunity to have a go at steam-bending and to use the pole-lathe!
Course times: 10am - 5.30pm. Camping area or on-site yurt available.

I've always wanted to build a chair. Jo's teaching style and creativity helped me realize the chair i wanted to build, leading to me winning first prize at the Bodgers Ball, put on by the pole-lathe turners and green woodworkers association, in the first chair category. The setting and atmosphere of Jo's school makes for a great holiday experience.

I never thought I would be able to make a chair that I would be proud of.... but Jo's laid back teaching style and excellent tools and materials enabled me to do just that. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who wants a week away from it all with a great teacher and good companions, all working away using traditional green woodworking methods and locally grown timber. Thanks Jo!
