About the Course
Make A Chair From a Log - 7 day green woodworking course.
Choose available dates (start date for a 7 day course) for a side chair or get in touch.
Green woodwork is an ancient craft based on the felling of a fresh Ash Tree, splitting this with axes and wedges along the natural grain (for maximum strength) then fashioning components for a chair by hand or with the aid of a leg powered lathe.
These components will then be fitted to a solid seat of Elm (slab & Stick construction) or fashioned into a frame (post and rail construction) which will then have a woven seat of Elm bark.
This green woodwork course is more than a basic course but the time allowed will mean that even a novice will complete a side chair (without arms) of style and quality. You will make either a post and rail chair with an Elm bark woven seat or one with a solid wooden seat in solid Elm known as a slab and stick seat.
Students who do not wish to make a chair are welcome to join this 7 day workshop and work on any other greenwood project they have an interest in. Ring Tim to discuss 07921 361484.
For example John Parr made a dining table last year.
Please note there is an additional charge for some materials e.g. Elm chair seat £60, woven Elm bark seat £35
