About the Course
Turn a stool into a chair in a day!
Due to Storm Hannah, the course in April was cancelled. It has been rescheduled for June 9th. If you wish to join this course please get in touch!
Next course date November 2019.
The course is run in the woods which are located on Shipton's Grave Lane, Avening.
Here at West Ruggers Green Wood learn how to coppice a stool then turn your harvest into a centre piece for your garden or make as a gift for a loved one.
Green stick chair making is a skill anyone can master. All chairs are unique, they are as individual as the person making them.
The day begins at 10am with a quick safety talk then we move on to thinking about how to design the chair and working out how much wood we may need. Once we have selected, coppiced and returned with the wood to the work area, building can begin. The rest of the day will be spent around the canopy area building the chair, chatting to new friends, drinking plenty of hot drinks and eating lunch around the fire.
Feel free to bring soup or other things to cook on the fire. We are more than happy for people to feed themselves but sadly we cannot cook for you as that requires food hygiene certificates etc.
We can, however, boil lots of water for hot drinks. We are really keen for everyone to feel at home!
So, come and get stuck in and remember you will be taking a chair home at the end of the day. If you have trouble taking it on the day then we are happy to hold on to them in the woods for you until you are able to arrange collection.
Look forward to meeting you.
Kindest regards Estelle :-)
