About the Course

This course is designed and structured for people of all abilities to learn a basic understanding of the ancient art of faux granite & sandstone paint techniques and to be comfortable using the paints and glazes used to master them. You will be introduced to acrylic scumble glaze & colourants, and their correct use and applications. Courses will be run by Simon Nobs, Director of Snobs Interiors Ltd., with over 30 years experience working as a specialist interior decorator and designer. We will start at 9.30am and aim to finish around 3.30pm. We will begin with a talk about the day and a brief history of some of the effects, over tea and coffee. Simon will give a detailed explanation of the correct use of primers and basecoats to be applied to a variety of surfaces and we will then move on to prepare and basecoat the sample boards. Whilst the boards are drying, Simon will give a demonstration of some of the techniques that the students will be introduced to. You will then be guided through the different stages used to create professional looking faux stone effects, and then shown the correct use of varnishes to protect your work. The atmosphere will be relaxed and informal and there will be plenty a time through the day to ask Simon questions and advice on anything to do with decorating and design. The students can take home any finished sample boards and are encouraged to continue practising what they have learnt.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

Want to review this course?

A fantastic course run excellently by Simon! The course was great fun and was set in a very calm quiet studio. The studio is a short walk away from the sea front, which provided a nice break while waiting for my paint to dry! Simon was a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic tutor, who patiently guided me through the wood graining taster course. I was very happy with the paint effect I was able to produce with Simon's guidance and would be confident in performing the technique again. I will definitely be returning to the South Coast Studio to learn more decorative paint techniques!
