About the Course

Introduction to making your own glass beads. In a few hours of one-to-one tuition I will show you the fundamental skills of this fascinating and beautiful craft

Make your own glass beads by melting coloured rods of glass in an open flame, using a technique called 'lampworking'. Alternating between a series of demonstrations followed by your practice and experimentation, depending on progress you could make up to 5 or 6 beads.

I will show you how to form a basic bead, and then add embellishments such as dots and stripes.
The sessions are one-to-one and include use of all tools and materials. The beads will then be kiln annealed ( held at a particular temperature to reduce internal strain in the glass and make them very durable) they will then be available to collect or posted to you free of charge. They will also include the demonstration beads made on the day.

If you would like, I will make your selection of beads into a bracelet for you, at no extra cost. The classes are held in my lovely bright Studio located 5 minutes walk from the train station in the heart of Sheffields Cultural Quarter.

Aprons and protective glasses are provided. Wear clothes you feel comfortable working in, and if you have long hair please tie it back.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

Use of all tools and materials, including safety eyewear and apron.

Where do I even start? I had an absolutely amazing afternoon with Julia. The time whizzed by and I'm really excited to see the final product (I only did it yesterday. They should be in the kiln as we speak!).

I'm definitely going to find the time to go back so that should be enough to tell you to book on yourself!
