What does the course cover?
You will be producing high quality, professionally finished lampshade from start to finish that you will take home with you, along with the knowledge and ability to make your own lampshades at home. The default lampshade will be 20cm wide by 24cm deep and ideal on a table lamp stand, unless you choose to upgrade to a larger size.
We provide all the necessary tools, equipment and skills that you will need, so all you need to bring is your own fabric (optional) and a can-do attitude (mandatory.) You can choose to make the lampshade either as a pendant (ceiling) or table on the night.
You will also have the choice to purchase some of Gillian's fabric, along with some of her personally curated selection. You can also choose to make a wider diameter 30cm or 45cm lampshade, though the height remains 24cm. If you want to to make a larger lampshade, please let us know in advance so we can ensure we have the correct parts for you.
To increase the lampshade diameter, it is +£5 for the 30cm, or +£10 for the 45cm.
To purchase some of Gillian's fabric, it is +£5 for 20cm lampshades, +£7.50 for30cm lampshades, or +£10 for 45cm.
These are charged separately, so to increase to a 30cm AND buy some of Gillian's fabric would be a further £17.50.
You can pay for the upgrades at the class itself, or in advance at our Darlington shop, or over the phone.
If bringing your own fabric
The minimum size you will be able to work depends on the size of lampshade you wish to make. Ideally, we recommend a rectangle at least 30cm tall and at least 80cm for a 20cm, 1.1M for a 30cm or 1.6M for a 45cm by length. We recommend a fabric made from either cotton or linen, although you can use other fabrics. Please keep in mind that if you are using fabric with a large pattern then you may want to bring more than the minimum size, so you can get the best pattern for the lampshade.
