A 1 hour workshop of mindful making with clay, lead by Sarah, an experienced ceramic artist and mediation teacher. No experience with clay or mindfulness practice necessary.
We will begin with a short welcome from Sarah. After a guided mindfulness exercise, the main activity will be the guided making of a cup with a handle, which should take around 20-30 minutes. Our focus will be on working with our eyes closed and our cup handles will emerge from one piece of clay. Working from the whole, our cups will be truly personalised and will fit naturally into our hands. The focus, as with all my workshops, will be on working slowly and in rhythm with the breath. The outcome will be a decorative cup (the clay used is not fired). There should be time for those who wish to share their reflections after making.
The session will be no more than 1 hour and pre-registration is essential, although times and dates are flexible to suit you.
This workshop makes a perfect gift, a way for families who want to connect over long distances to get together or friends who want to experience a new craft in the comfort of their own home.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
The course fee includes 1kg of air dry clay for each session. This is professional quality potters clay with polyester fibre inclusions, making this a safe and friendly material to work with.
Shipping is normally by Royal Mail or Parcelforce (please allow 4-5 days for delivery). Please contact me if you would like your order shipped via a different method.
Want to bring your own clay? There is a small discount if you would like to bring your own clay. You can join the session with playdough or salt dough if you have this and if you can source it locally, please do support your local supplier/art shop by bringing your own modelling clay; please contact me if this applies to you.
No special tools are required. The following would be helpful;
- Desk/table space
- Some newspaper to work on
- Hand washing facilities
- An apron if you need one
