Course Start DatesSunday 2nd February 2020
About the Course
Working with glass is not nearly as scary as it sounds, come and try it out for yourself.
Beginners Fusing workshops at Fusing Ideas Glass will teach you the basics and give you the opportunity to play with a fabulous and addictive medium and make your own gorgeous glass. Doing something creative is a great way to unwind.
Class sizes are small which means a good student to teacher ratio.
Specific dates available or contact us for an exclusive date for three or more people!
We also run full day workshops for beginners - make more and 'go large'! See our website for details. And if you already know the basics, take a look at our Further Fusing workshops. We also run Christmas specials.
•Basic safety, tools & equipment.
•Basic terms; warm glass, what is fusing, slumping, cold working etc.
•The glass we use and others types, compatibility & ‘accessory’ glass.
•Cutting and handling glass.
•What happens to glass in the kiln.
•Introduction to basic design ideas & techniques.
During your half day Taster(approx. 3 hours) you can create a variety of small projects, typically 4, coaster sized (10cm square), 2 of which can be slumped into little (trinket) dishes if you wish. You will be encouraged to use different design techniques for your projects, although you can make a set the same if you wish. And to experiment with our range of accessory glass (frits, powders & stringers) and inclusions.
You can cut your glass smaller or you may prefer to avoid further glass cutting completely and use just the bits & pieces available in the studio - there is plenty to choose from!
The choice is yours, with guidance and advice throughout.
Your projects will be fired (fused and slumped) over the following 2 weeks, ready for collection or posting - which is charged at cost.
Your 'tutor' is Jill Bagnall artist/maker at Fusing Ideas Glass. Jill is a member of both Shropshire & Worcestershire Guilds of Contemporary Craft as well as the Contemporary Glass Society.
Come and recharge your batteries at a creative workshop while making your own beautiful art glass. But beware! As Jill says "glass is a seductive material, you could find yourself hooked"!
