Hello and welcome to smARTsy! I offer glass fusing and Tiffany style copper foiling sessions from my cosy workshop in Ratby, located between Groby and Kirby Muxloe, and only about 20 minutes from Loughborough, Leicester, & Melton.
With spaces limited to only 6 people on these day events, you will have plenty of support as you learn about these beautiful art forms.
If you have chosen Glass Fusion, after a brief introduction you will learn about glass and its many forms though the handling of sample pieces fused by myself. You will learn to how to recognise and use a huge array of glass forms, all available in different colours and find out about stringers, frit, sheet, confetti, millifiori, dichroic, and iridescent glass! Learn the difference between tac and full fusing and how each is achieved; decide whether you want to go for slumping or not! I will give you a demonstration about cutting techniques and deliver a safety talk. When ready, you will decide how to divide up your sheet of glass and then the fun will really start! Take your time faffing about with your designs until you're ready to glue.
At the end of the session we'll take your works of art down to my kiln room where I will talk you through the fusing process. Your work will be left with me to be fused and gently cooled, ready for collection after a few days or posting on for a small cost. I clean up the glass and attachments for hanging, or stands for displaying, are included in the price.
If you have chosen Tiffany Style stained glass you will be introduced to the glass available and learn how to create a design that will work. After a safety talk and a demonstration on how to cut glass you will develop your design and cut your glass. Then it will be time to apply the copper foil and solder the pieces together. Finally a patina will be applied. You will take your stained glass work of art home with you on the day.
These one day workshops are 'stand alone' and are equally suited to beginners and more experienced customers. As you become more familiar with fusing glass and how it behaves there are opportunities to experiment by, for example, booking my spare kiln shelf for a spot of free form work or having a go with kiln paper or working with stencils. Why not be ambitious and combine glass fusion with stained glass? Warning: it's rather addictive!
What's included in the price?
The price for the 5 hour session is excellent value at £70.
You will be given a 30 x 30 centimetre piece of glass to be divided up how you wish for the glass fusion. I will help you! From this you would be able to make a range of objects. Maybe you'll choose curved pieces of glass, and a suncatcher; or any number of suncatchers, or go for some coasters!
Stained glass includes a similar amount of glass.
Please book via the link below - it will take you to 'meetup' which is a really easy way to book your ticket and pay via PayPal. It also helps me as it allocates your space out of the 6 available. If you'd rather send a bank transfer just get in touch.
If you cannot make the dates I have advertised I can put on a date to suit.
