Course Start DatesSaturday 25th January 2020
About the Course
Come along to one of our 'one' day (10am to 3pm) fun and friendly Furniture Painting Workshops at the gorgeous Grappenhall Heyes Walled Garden, Warrington, Cheshire. Spend the day in the bright and airy schoolroom and glass house whilst looking out onto the spectacular gardens. On sunny days, we can get outside to paint!
Learn how to upcycle, refresh, modernise and skilfully transform a piece of your tired and dated furniture whilst making some new like minded friends in a relaxed, supportive and beautiful environment.
Leave with the skills and inspiration to continue further projects at home. A small group of no more than 6, therefore you will receive one to one instruction for much of the time.
Choose either level 1 or 2 depending on your experience:
On the level 1 Furniture Painting Workshop you will bring a small piece of furniture which you'd like to freshen up and transform into a beautiful, elegant piece to match your home decor.
During the first section of the workshop I will teach you about the paint, brushes, tools and wood preparation. You will also learn a variety of painting and effects techniques incl. painting, crackling, dry brushing, distressing, two colour, stencilling, waxing and finishing/protecting the paint when you will be able to experiment with different paints, colours, brushes and techniques on a techniques board (provided and which you will be able to take home). I will guide you through each stage and discuss in detail how and when to use each technique.
You will then try out your newly learned skills during the second part of the day when you will paint and transform your piece of furniture.
I will be there every step of the way to guide you and to provide advice and ideas for a creative result. Again, with such a small group, there is plenty of time for one to one discussion. Full workshop notes on techniques, paints, products and where to buy will be provided.
The level 2 Intermediate / Advanced Workshop) is ideal for people who have a basic knowledge of furniture painting, or those who have attended Level 1. You will learn a variety of more advanced techniques including glazing, raised stencilling, image transfer, decoupage, blending and metallic/leaf foiling, creating your own board and small pieces (all provided in the price) which you will be able to take home with you on the day. You wouldn't need to bring any furniture with you for this workshop. Full workshop notes also provided.

Joanne (The Boho Shed) :-)
Today I had the privilege to attend Jo’s Boho Shed studio and learn how to paint a piece of furniture. My best friend bought me this experience as a surprise and it did not disappoint. I had a dark wood table that looked very unloved and with Jo’s great knowledge, passion for her craft and Enthusiastic enthusiasm for us to enjoy learning a new skill, I produced an amazing rejuvenated piece of furniture in Swanky Pants colour edged in distressed silver. Highly recommended and thank you Jo xx
Sharon Radley - - #25875
Response from The Boho Shed:I'm delighted you enjoyed the workshop Sharon and that it was a good surprise! Lovely of your friend to do that for you. Thank you for your kind words. x
I have just spent a wonderful day learning loads of excellent furniture painting techniques. There were only a few in the class so Jo was able to support us all really well. Jo is obviously a very knowledgeable & experienced teacher.
I arrived with a very boring and highly polished dark wood nest of tables & left with a beautiful & classy navy & grey table, looking forward to painting the other 2. Already planning my next day with Jo, but what to choose - upholstered footstool or intermediate painting techniques 🤔 . Great day, thanks Jo xxx
Sal Basford - - #25867
Response from The Boho Shed:Thank you so much Sal. I'm so pleased you enjoyed the workshop, you did a really great job on your tables. I look forward to seeing you soon on the next one. :-)
Just had a brilliant day with Jo who was wonderful and informative. Even though I am not creative, this allowed me to try out different techniques which I will be able to use. Jo spent time with everyone discussing ideas for our chosen piece of furniture. I am looking forward to booking on another course in the future.

The instructor was very informative, and with guidance and advice along the way, I finished up with a brand new contemporary paper rack. Thank you so much!

I completed the one day furniture painting workshop for beginners on 7th June. It was an excellent day. First class tuition from Jo who took us through several paint techniques step by step. I painted a small side table using the crackle glaze technique, some stencilling and air brushing. I was really impressed with the final result. All materials supplied with a huge choice of colours. I would highly recommend the workshop. Far better than a previous workshop I had attended.

We learnt how to create a distressed look, stencil, how to create the crackling look. Jo was extremely friendly, patient, helpful and full of wonderful ideas as we had the opportunity during the course to create an effect on an item of our choice.
