About the Course
Learn how to stitch a portrait by using your sewing machine like a pencil and develop your own style of storytelling in the tiny details of the stitches. Learn how to dance with your Sewing Machine, this course is for the experimental and adventurous!
During the class, Harriet will work with you using a series of different exercises helping you find your confidence in free motion embroidery. By the end of the weekend you will have created your own stitched portrait, and had the option to have a go at landscapes and storytelling.
Here are some of the things you will work with during the weekend:
Free motion embroidery
One line drawing
Ways of finding rhythms in the face.
Finding and hiding details within the work
What you need to bring: (*= essential)
*Small sharp embroidery scissors.
*A Sewing machine which the feed dogs can drop
*an embroidery foot,
an extension table (if possible)
Fabric that may mean something to them or their subject.
Different Scraps of material,
Black machine thread,
Multi-coloured machine thread,
*Photographs of a portrait they would like to focus on Printed out on A4 size paper
There will be a half hour lunch with a mid morning / afternoon coffee break. Come and try something new in the company of other friendly creatives!
