About the Course
Saturday 16th June: Freemotion/Freehand Machine Embroidery and Applique
These workshops are the perfect antidote to the digital world. Annie will teach you how to create some stunning textile projects using fabric and stitching. By spending a few satisfying hours learning new skills you will go home inspired and addicted to freemotion embroidery! Designed for both beginners and more advanced stitchers, we will cover how to apply fabrics and designs to a base cloth and embellish with freehand machine embroidery. We will start the day by looking at some inspiring contemporary textiles and talk about colour choices and design elements. Come along and simply enjoy yourself in the world of material for a day! Before the day ends, if you wish, you may learn how to transform your piece into a small lantern or pot, or a simple picture. Feel free to bring along any cherished fabrics, trims or notions that you may want to use. Annie has a very friendly and relaxed approach to teaching and welcomes beginners. Freehand machine embroidery is a hugely popular skill to learn, so beware, this is addictive! Lots of fabrics will be provided and any additional haberdashery products or tools will be available to purchase on the day.
Saturday 28th July: Make Friends with your Sewing Machine!
In this sewing workshop we are going to blast away that mental block you have with using your machine! Come and spend the day playing around with your machine and make up some small samples to take away with you. Annie will teach you how to properly thread up your machine and bobbins, go through different stitches, as well as using various feet, needles and even face the fear of putting in a zip! However, there really is nothing to fear!
We will have a lovely day without any pressure and simply play with fabrics and threads. You may even go home with a little tote bag if you feel up to making it! Complimentary tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day with fabrics aplenty. Simply bring yourself and your machine. Oh and don't forget the manual (if you have one) and machine leads! Please be aware that the workshop is on the top floor of Harbour House in the arts studio and unfortunately there isn't a lift. If you need assistance with your machine, please let Annie know.
August 25th: Contemporary Hand Embroidery
This full day workshop is the perfect antidote to the digital age of 'screen life' that we currently find ourselves in. During this workshop we will embrace the slow tech movement and cover some simple hand embroidery techniques and stitches. Annie has created a fabulous collection of downloadable pattern designs that can be used as starting points for your unique contemporary embroidery. Many of these will be available for use on the workshop. You will learn how to transfer images to fabric and you could even bring along some clothing to embroider! This is a relaxed class giving you the opportunity to enjoy the process of slow stitching and seeing a design come to life. Complimentary tea and coffee will be served throughout the day. This full day workshop would make a great gift for someone who would like to learn something new or simply brush up on old skills! Haberdashery items will be available to purchase at the workshop helping you to keep stitching when the class has ended.
September 22nd: Cushion Making Workshop
Enjoy a day of making cushion covers as a girl simply can't have enough cushions, right? Annie will teach you how to make easy envelope style cushion covers as well as more traditional piped edge cushions. You will make lots of samples to refer to when you get home and end the day with a unique cushion cover of your own. There will be plenty of fabric to create your own patchwork style cushion or do feel free to bring along fabric of your own choosing if you so wish. Complimentary tea and coffee will be available throughout the day or you may prefer to have refreshments from the fabulous cafe on site at Harbour House. Just bring yourself and your machine!

Thank you Annie for a very informative course. I now feel much more confident to use my sewing machine. I've used the notes I made with you and my test material with all the different stitch lengths. It was a really useful, fun day.

IT was a lovely day where Annie took us through the basics of machine embroidery. She was able to help everyone out individually and came over as someone who knew a lot about the subject and was excited to pass on what she knew.
I loved looking at all her samples and meeting like-minded people.
I would like to know how to progress with the technique 'beyond the basics' now.
