Free motion machine embroidery is a ‘jump on in’ kind of course! It’s scary at first, especially if you are used to sewing on a sewing machine, but once you start you can’t stop!
Learn the art of free machine embroidery to make beautiful butterflies and more. Gill will help you get over your inhibitions and fly free!
Use up snips of sparkly sheers and twinkly voiles to create beautiful stitched treasures! Using free-motion stitching and layering techniques in combination with dye-based paints you can make textured, intricate shaped brooches and motifs – and look forward to spring!
All tools and materials will be available as well as tea, coffee and biscuits, but please bring a packed lunch. If you have your own sewing machine we recommend bringing it, even if you don’t have a free machine foot.
The course can accommodate complete beginners and those wishing to enhance their skills.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All tools and materials, tea, coffee & biscuits but please remember to bring a packed lunch.

I hadn't done any painting since my school days (a long time ago!) and was pretty terrified but Janet walked everything through with such patience and encouragement I was able to get over my insecurities and paint a picture I was proud of! Everyone in the class I was in, had different insecurities but by the end everyone had painted a beautiful picture and felt confident that they could continue to grow! Her experience in painting flowers 'in the flesh' is well demonstrated and she knows how to bring out the delightful characters of every species; even the most tricky of characters! Her techniques for composition are genius!
Jill is a wonderful teacher with years of experience of glass art and teaching under her belt. Having never done anything like this before I was able to produce beautiful pieces in just a few short hours! The space at Cambridge Makers is also really lovely and welcoming and has excellent facilities.
