Free Motion Machine Embroidery Butterfly Glos/Wilts/Oxon Borders

Free Motion Machine Embroidery

We're delighted to welcome back guest tutor Janie Burnett-Bleach of Janie's Originals, who will guide you through making a beautiful embroidered and beaded butterfly brooch.

In this workshop you will start by learning how to draw simple shapes on wadded fabric with your sewing machine. As we progress you will learn how best to guide fabric through your machine and gain confidence with speed and smaller patterns.

You will learn all the stages involved in producing a finished embroidered and beaded brooch. We will work on a 9cm butterfly in a colourway of your choice and embroider the veining detail before beading the wings and felting a body. We will attach cord antenna before finishing the back with felt and a safety brooch catch.

All attendees must have some basic sewing knowledge and need to bring their own sewing machine in good working order* (we only use straight and zig zag stitch so fancy machines aren’t required). Your machine must have the ability to drop the feed dogs and a darning foot is essential. A good quality embroidery needle will be needed and spares are recommended, (Try ‘Schmetz gold’ - £4.82 for 5 on Amazon).
*Attendees are responsible for their own sewing machines and any mechanical issues are not the responsibility of the tutor.

Cost £60 per person, includes all materials.

Please bring lunch, refreshments, personal hand sanitiser and a face covering.
