Roman mosaic kit with 10mm x 10mm unglazed ceramic tiles that will all need to be cut into four 5mm x 5mm tesserae (mosaic tiles).
Are you the sort of person that looks forward to sitting down with a 1,000+ piece jigsaw puzzle but are looking for a new challenge? Then these 'Roman Mosaics in Miniature' kits are for you.
The patterns are copied from original Roman mosaics from 2,000 years ago. Once you have cut your tesserae then the process of setting the 5mm cubes not only allows you to really understand how these patterns are put together but working in this size makes you slow down and become absorbed in the process.
This pattern is what i term 'planometric' meaning it is a 2 dimensional piece of work that becomes three dimensional because of the way the tesserae are set.
Due to the size and number of pieces the miniature kits may not be suitable for this under 16 years.
A certain amount of physical dexterity is required to manipulate the 5 mm tesserae into place.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
