Foraging basket (2 day) workshop with Hopewood Baskets
Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd April On this active two day course you will learn how to make a round-based basket with a wrapped handle, using Somerset willow. Using tried and tested willow basketry techniques, you will work in a small group of 8, guided by two tutors, Sarah and Marcus. Using our years of teaching experience, we will guide you step by step through the different processes, starting by grading the willow into different thicknesses, before moving onto the weaving techniques and ending with a basket made with your own hands! This course is designed for beginners. SKILLS YOU WILL LEARN: Grading and selecting materials Weaving techniques: Slath base construction, 3 rod wale, Side weave adapted to your skill level, Weaving a rod-border, Adding a wrapped handle, Trimming your basket Please arrive at 9.30am to settle in before tuition at 10am EXPERIENCE AND ACCESSIBILITY: This active course is aimed at beginners. Willow weaving can be hard on the hands, so is usually unsuitable for those who suffer from arthritis or other conditions that affect the hands, but do get in touch if you would like to discuss this further before booking.
