Duration: 1 day
at Cowshed Creative (Kentmere Farm Pods and Creative Courses)
About the Course
Celebrate the abundance of flowers and plants found in the meadow, hedgerows and garden. Develop your design and drawing skills with this relaxed and informal approach that encourages playful experimentation with ink, pencil, watercolour/acrylic wash and pastel and collage. Combine different techniques and develop your skills with colour, composition and observation.
Start the day gathering material to work with, making quick sketches and taking photos on the farm. If it is wet we will provide a collection of flowers, plants and grasses for still life arrangements and individual studies. You will explore shape, texture and colour and create depth and definition by combining and layering different media for a fresh and exciting effect. Kate will help you every step of the way with demonstrations, advice and expert tips.
You don’t need to have had any previous experience. Those with some drawing experience will find new challenges in combining different media.
Kate Reid trained at Central School of Art in London in textile design, which led to work as a freelance knitwear designer and textile specialist. She now runs her own successful costume hire
company, designing and making bespoke costumes for both theatre productions and film. Kate is an inspiring teacher; she has loads of experience and will help you develop your creativity.
This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a traditional converted Lakeland barn at Browfoot Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay on the farm.
All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education. .
