About the Course

I have taught plant/flower painting for over 3 decades to many designers who wish to enhance their skills as floral textile designers and also people who want to learn for their own enjoyment. I run workshops and courses from my studio in Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey and from Treborth Botanical Gardens in Bangor. They are open to total beginners and more experienced learners. My approach is that of a portrait painter - opening to what the flower has to offer us.

The workshop is in watercolour but I also teach Gouache painting. Gouache is a wonderful versatile medium which is similar to watercolour but can be painted onto very dark backgrounds.
These courses are usually residential but are open to non-residents also. The price advertised is non-residential.

The workshops run from Friday through to Sunday evening. On Friday we gather together in the studio and go over the weekend and the facilities in the studio. People who are staying on site will be familiarised with rooms etc. On Saturday we paint in the studio and on Sunday we paint at the botanical gardens in the comfortable teaching room and in the luscious greenhouses which are full to bursting with all kinds of wondrous plants!

I have taught plant drawing/painting at many levels from being a University lecturer in Art&Design and foundation courses for those who are starting out. Recently I have run local groups in Wales for adults and for the WEA. I also have experience in working with disabled people and those with special needs. Part of my training has been in Art Therapy. My workshops are friendly and I endeavour to make each person feel welcome. You will come away inspired and with enough information to create your own plant portraits!.

I look forward to meeting you and please feel free to contact me should you have any questions. Diolch.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

Included in the cost is full tuition and entry and use of the Botanical Gardens.
Residential learners stay on site in my lovely comfortable home which is 5 minutes walk from the beach and the town of Beaumaris. Its connected to my studio via a garden. Or you can stay in one of the 2 cosy lofts in the spacious studio (this will allow you to work in the evening as well). The studio has all facilities including its own fully equipped kitchen, wetroom, central heating and a log burner.
I can also recommend alternative accommodation locally.
The cost of staying in the studio or the house for 2 nights and all workshops is £290. Included in the cost is breakfast, lunch and dinner, drinks, cake/biscuits throughout the day.

I prefer learners to bring their own paints and paper but I always have spares that can be used at cost price
Please contact me if you have any other questions. Thank you and I look forward to meeting you!
