About the Course

I am a professional jeweller and full time adult education teacher - teaching jewellery making. I offer an option of individually tailored 1-1 / private tuition with me in London.

I work in many different materials and love mixing them together so can offer a wide range of options for both complete beginners and more advanced students wanting to add to their skills.

Teaching from my studio in central London - close to Camden station, I have everything you need on hand to make your own gorgeous jewellery.

Whether you are completely new to jewellery making and fancy trying your hand or starting at a new hobby, fancy a fun day (or evening) out with a friend or two, or already create your own jewels and want to build on your existing skills, I can help you create unique, professionally finished jewellery.

You can choose from any of these options, or let me know your own ideas and I'll let you know whether it is something I can help with:

- Silver and gemstone jewellery
A beginners day might be designing and creating a ring and earrings, or another item from scratch, or for those with a little experience, I can help you get started with stone setting, chain making, metal forming, simple home casting, or more.

- Bead stringing and wirework
A beginners day might be designing and creating a range of jewellery covering basic stringing techniques, making earrings, necklaces, bracelets and securely finishing the fastenings, or the focus could be on using wire to create links, shapes and 3D forms for, or around beads.

- Pearl knotting

- Kumihimo (Japanese braiding)
Braiding can be used to create unique custom cords and ropes, for jewellery, for dressmaking / upholstery, or any other functional or decorative use, either from silks / textiles, or incorporating beads.

- Silver clay
Silver clay is a magical material - silver particles suspended in a clay - it can be worked just like other clays, then dried, refined and fired to create a solid silver form. Beginners can create two or three simple pieces in a day (or one more complex one) and improvers can add skills including stone setting, creating different types of 3D shapes, making rings, and more.

- Wax carving
I love sculpting designs in wax - using this traditional technique to create master models to use later for lost wax casting, or electroforming. On a beginners day I can introduce you to the basic skills, tools and processes I find most useful for working with wax and you'll create either a series of test pieces and/or a simple finished model ring or pendant ready to cast.

- Stitched beadwork
Another of my passions - working with just tiny glass seed beads, and a needle and thread, I can help you to learn different stitches, understand how to follow charted patterns, or to create your own unique designs.

- Electroforming
See my other listing for Electroforming courses

I offer one off, one day (or shorter) sessions as an introduction to, or skills boost on a specific chosen topic or style of jewellery making, as well as offering blocks of sessions for those looking for longer term support or to build more skills.

I primarily teach 1-1 at my studio, but can accommodate up to 5 students (depending on the topic), so if you have friends, family or colleagues that would like to share a session this can also be great fun.

I have been making jewellery for over 20 years, have a degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing, and have been teaching jewellery making since 2009, when I completed my initial training for teaching adult education classes. I love making jewellery and sharing my skills with new people from all over the world; I have occasional repeat students visiting from Italy, France, Egypt, Norway, as well as from all around London and the UK.

Get in touch anytime, and we can discuss what you would like to work on and what jewellery you will create.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

The price listed is for a single day for one person - an individually tailored schedule of projects / exercises for the day based on your own interests and experience (discussed and planned in advance by e-mail), and my undivided help and attention for the day!

All the materials and information you need to complete these projects and create your own gorgeous jewellery to take away with you are included in the price, as well as refreshments during the day.
Lunch is not included, but there are many local shops and cafes, or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch.

Alternatives are available for shorter or multiple sessions, or for more people.
