About the Course
Flamework/Lampwork bead making is the process of making glass beads using; in this case, a hot head. In this beginner's class (for up to 2 people) we will look at: equipment and health and safety, using the torch, making a basic doughnut shaped bead, plus decoration and some shaping. Expect to make around 8 beads in this 3 hour session, I can also help you build on existing skills such as making sculptural animal beads, encasing, using silver.
Please note these prices include materials and are the price if one person attends (which some people prefer and we can discuss on booking), if more book (I can take up to 3 people) the cost per person is reduced and I will update you of this prior to the class.

As part of this year's summer school, I did another flamework course with Toni. We covered new techniques & I went home with several lovely beads, including a couple of adventurous fish beads with fins & tails. It was very enjoyable

I had a lovely morning learning the art of flamework. Toni has wealth of knowledge, she makes you feel at ease, taking time to talk through each stage before you have a go! Can't wait to see how my beads have turned out, thanks for a fab day! Think I might need to go again!

I found this course very informative and really enjoyed it. I learned several different enamelling techniques and managed to make three items in the time. Toni was very friendly and helpful and was there all of the time to guide us through what we wanted to achieve. I would thoroughly recommend this day course.

Having enjoyed last year's summer school, I was keen to attend this year's too. I did the beginner's flamework beads, to remember the basics & create some more lovely pieces, before trying the sculptured beads class in the afternoon. It was challenging & lots of fun (although my owl had wonky wings). Toni is fantastic & very patient with all our questions. I can't wait to do some more!

I did both the flamework beginners course and the sculpted animals flamework course as part of Toni's "Summer School" courses. I had a fantastic day and although I already know some of the basics I learnt so much and had great fun too! I would definitely recommend both courses as Toni is a fantastic teacher, very patient, explains things well and is happy to answer all your questions.

And I thought I was the most uncreative person in the world! However, the results from my wonderful afternoon with Toni were very impressive. That wasn't all down to me as Toni is a most competent teacher who was so encouraging and engaging that I couldn't fail to produce some lovely beads. The lesson was extremely well structured and it was very good to experience improvement as the lesson progressed. We started by making a simple bead and then moving through stages of making different shapes and patterns. In the end I felt that I really achieved something worthwhile both in the practical sense and also having a great time. Also, health and safety was taken very seriously.
I can't wait to see my beads! Thank you, Toni!

The beads that I made a couple of weeks ago have just arrived. I am very pleased that they turned out so well, I thoroughly enjoyed my lesson and would highly recommend it to others.

I did 2 flame work courses with Toni. Both very enjoyable. The first was the beginners course where we covered a range of different techniques. Toni is a good teacher starting with the basic steps and taking you through to the more advanced techniques. She adapts the course to your own requirements & pace which I particularly appreciated.
The second was the sculptured flame work course which I did a few days later. This was particularly enjoyable as we made different animals using the techniques learnt on the first course. It is totally absorbing as you need to focus on what you are doing. Toni is clear & helpful in her tuition & I was really pleased with the results. There was time to make 2 owls, 2 other birds, a ladybird & a butterfly.
If you enjoy crafts/working with your hands this is an enjoyable way to make something unique.

I have returned home with some glass beads that I will incorporate into a Kumihimo piece (Japanese braiding). Thanks Toni for a great lesson!

Excellent course & lots of fun. Toni is both knowledgeable & a very good teacher. She made us feel confident at trying something new, helped & encouraged us. It was an enjoyable afternoon, with a selection of glass beads ... which looked a lot better than we thought they would. I'd live to do it again & maybe be more adventurous

I had enjoyable first experience at learning the art of Lampwork with Toni. She has lots to say on the subject. It is inspiring to see how many techniques we covered within those 3 hours. I can't wait to hone these skills! With the helpful information pack given, I know I can take the first steps.

I had such a fabulous time today at a 1 to 1 session with Toni. I learnt so much about the equipment, process and different techniques and although I had never done any lamp work before, I came away with lots of wonderful beads and felt like I had improved a lot. I would definitely recommend!

My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed the course and felt that it was a great introduction to lampworking techniques and equipment. Toni is a great tutor, friendly, patient and knowledgeable about the subject.

Toni was very informative and very good at instructing on the various techniques, and as total beginner I found the course unbelievably helpful. Altering the course to trailer to your specific needs I think this is a great choice for anyone wanting to start in this area of glass work.

I cannot praise this course enough. Toni is an excellent teacher, showing each stage of bead making and allowing lots of time for you to try each different technique. Although she has a structured plan, grading each new technique in order to maximise learning, she allows for individual choice and will adapt the course to your preference.
Helen Cruickshank - - #583
Toni is very knowledgeable and nervous beginners will be immediately put at ease by her friendly approach.
The course itself covers a surprisingly large range of techniques for the time involved, and you will end up with a nice little collection of beads to take home with you.
