About the Course

ELKA is a woven textile studio where textile designer Ellie Fisher produces bespoke hand woven textiles for fashion and furnishing. Ellie Fisher is a textile designer with a foundation in textiles from Winchester School of Art and a BA and MA from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. With over 15 years of weaving experience she is passionate about sharing her love of textiles.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The workshop will teach you the basic principles and terminology of weaving and you will create a small woven piece using a frame loom. Spaces are limited to ensure so you receive as much guidance as you need. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those that have a little experience and would like a refresher.

You will have the opportunity to buy your loom at the the end of the workshop for £20. Cash is preferable.

Suitable for beginners. Class size is limited to 8 students.

What's included in the price?

The course price includes 6 hours of guided tuition, use of the looms and all materials including yarns and a selection of fibres including organic cotton, bamboo, flax and hemp. You will be given your own clear workshop handouts to take away with you.

Hot drinks and biscuits will be available in the room all day.

Fisherton Mill is the largest independent Gallery complex in the south and has an onsite, award winning, Cafe on the ground floor. The Gallery Café's varied menu changes to suit the seasons and the recipes often use fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Pop in for a coffee, a cup of tea and a piece of cake, or something more substantial either before, during or after your workshop.

There is always something delicious to choose from - for lunch, try a generously filled sandwich or something warm, such as some hearty soup in winter, or a healthy salad in the summer, all washed down with a glass of wine, some elderflower or home-made minty limeade.
